When you throw a Feast, invite the Poor

There was a teacher in ancient times
who instructed his students to invite
the poor, the crippled, the lame, and the blind
to their banquet.

They looked at him like he was crazy, so he went on.
“Your friends, brothers, relatives, and rich neighbors
all repay you in kind when you invite them to your table.
Invite someone else instead.
Someone who cannot repay you,
and you will truly be blessed.”

He said lots of crazy things like this.
So many in fact,
that the Roman government killed him,
while his students were hiding.
